Why I’m Against the Death Penalty….

2006-JUN-11: AL: ABA recommends moratorium: An American Bar Association’s death penalty assessment team has recommended a moratorium on the death penalty in
Alabama. The team was headed by Daniel Filler, a University of Alabama law professor. The team of eight consists of both prosecuting and defense attorneys fromAlabama. They analyzed the state’s death penalty system for about 20 months before issuing their conclusions. They found: “…inadequate and inconsistent court-appointed representation, limited access to DNA testing, and no implementation of the US Supreme Court ruling against executing the mentally retarded.” Troy King, the Attorney General of Alabama dismissed the report. He is reported as believing that the ABA team is biased against the death penalty and thus assembled a team with that bias. He said: “The A-B-A is a liberal, activist organization with an agenda they constantly push. That’s why I’m not a member of the A-B-A.” _5,6Project Hope has a list of concerns about the implementation of the death penalty in Alabama. ₇_{This is just some of the concerns that the ABA found with Alabama’s Capital Punishment System. I seriously doubt that most states have much better evidence that prove that they are better in terms of fairness and following the specific guidlines laid out by the US Supreme Court. The old eye for an eye thing sometimes backfires and we’re left being the bad guy. Thousands have been executed unfairly. We need alternatives people!!!}

Why Uniqua?

Uniqua is a character on my son’s favorite cartoon “the Backyardigans”. I can’t really just say it’s his favorite since I’m taking the character’s name can i? Well every other animal on the show you know what they are but I’m not quites sure what she is. So sh’e unique, who couldn’t compare them-self to her? I’m finding myself so I don’t know who I am and I probably wan’t ever truly know but i do know that I am unique. I love being me and discovering new things about myself everyday. So that’s why Uniqua!!!

Capital Punishment….. Right or wrong? (Especially in Alabama)

Well I’m writing about Capital Punishment in Alabama for my research paper. I’m having the worst time deciding just how I want to go about it because there are so many aspects of the topic that I find interesting. I thought at first yeah let’s do the death penalty in the US, but as I researched more I thought wow let’s narrow it down to in Alabama. This state of Alabama has nearly 200 inmates on death row (and we wonder why our education systems are so bad here- that’s where all of our tax money is going!!!). As i looked into it more I realized that this topic is even really broad. The more I looked into it that I found that minorities are like 75% of the people on Alabama’s death row and I can’t help but wonder if that’s really fair. One statistic said that Blacks are only like 18% of the whole states population so how is this possible. Do I see a topic change possibly brewing in my mind? Who know’s bloggers, only time will tell!!!!
